Promises made. Promises kept. Real results.
Tom McMahon
Four years ago, Tom McMahon put forth a bold agenda of critical priorities to help save the City of Reading. The McMahon Plan was called "visionary" and "an agenda of hope for the entire region."

True to his word, Mayor McMahon has
been a tireless advocate for the
positive change he promised. And,
together with City Council and
community leaders, the Mayor's
bold agenda is already producing
real results:

The Mayor's plan is moving us forward;
a solid record of promises kept, and
so much more to do.
The McMahon Plan
Fight crime and drugs, and get more police on the streets

Promote economic development, revitalize downtown, improve City Hall, and bring good-paying jobs back to our City

Strengthen our neighborhoods, forming new neighborhood groups and improving codes enforcement
The Mayor and Chief Heim are adding more police to the streets, moving cops off desks and into our neighborhoods.

Mayor McMahon is leading the charge to get criminals and illegal guns off our streets.

The Mayor is working to bring back the police K-9 unit, shut down because of the City's economic crisis.

The Mayor and the Chief's new crime-fighting plan will result in video survelliance in priority areas -- a proven method of reducing crime.

Together with the Managing Director and City Council, the Mayor has moved our City from the brink of bankruptcy in one of the most remarkable economic turn-arounds in Pennsylvania history -- all while keeping taxes in check.

Our Mayor has been a strong and effective
advocate for regional cooperation in the areas
of economic development, planning and law
enforcement -- coordination that is now occuring
for the beneift of the City and all of Greater Reading.

Our downtown is undergoing revitalization on a massive scale: more than 1,000 new jobs (with hundreds more on the way), the new GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, the Miller Theatre, Sovereign Plaza, a 10-screen movie theatre, new restaurants, a new convention hotel, and new downtown housing developments.

Our Mayor has been personally involved in the creation of dozens of new neighborhood groups in every corner of our City, and is working to respond to neighborhood needs; the City's  economic recovery means hundreds of thousands of dollars can now be used to fund neighborhood improvement projects, including new street lighting.

Four years ago, in its endorsement of Tom McMahon, the Reading Eagle said that under the previous administration, "the city's soul spiraled down at a harrowing rate," and said the city had suffered "years of an inept administration and leadership that wavers between stupidity and gross negligence."

The Eagle said Tom McMahon was the one candidate that could "grab this city by the scruff of the neck and shake the evil and ineptitude out of it."  Candidate Tom McMahon promised to do just that. Mayor McMahon has kept that promise, and many more.
